DOMINIQUE CARELLA is a San Francisco born, social practice artist. Carella currently produces sculptural and text-based works in her studio in Los Angeles. Carella graduated from the University of California Santa Cruz, with a bachelor’s degree in both Visual Arts and Sociology, where she was highly recognized for her achievement in multidisciplinary studies. Although Carella's work has very large social implications, it stems from her personal experiences and heartbreaks as a young woman of mixed heritage growing up in the United States. Carella’s work explores a variety of issues that plague our daily interactions, including but not limited to intersectional feminism, race politics, cultural identity, gender roles and binaries, and violence against womxn.

Carella explores the use of toys and used household items, to examine how we are introduced to societal constructions from an early age. Carella uses toys and used household items to address her social commentaries in ways that are familiar to the masses. Carella uses text to access the more vulnerable side of her work, offering a personal narrative alongside her sculptural pieces. Carella's use of bold text-based installations, clothing, prints, and street art inspired stickers and buttons, allows her social commentaries to be shared with the masses. In 2018, Carella released her first full clothing line, which includes her confrontational messages and imagery, now available for purchase online at dominiquecarella.com/shop
